GDR DIGITAL DIMMER RACK & PACK (S)
A: GENERAL
1. Dimmer racks and packs are fully digital, rugged and designed specifically for the entertainment film industries.
2. A wide variety of dimmer packs and racks are available. The dimmer racks and packs will be available in the following
configurations: 24 x 2.4kw, 48 x 2.4kw, 96 x 2.4kw 24 x 2kw, 12 x 12kw, 6 x 12kw, 12 x 20kw, 6 x 20kw,
3 x 20kw,1 x 20kw and 1 x 24kw.
3. Dimmer racks and packs will be ETL listed under (UL STD 508).
Any fiberglass material utilized will meet electrical grade (UL 94v0) standard.
B: MECHANICAL
1. Dimmer racks and packs will consist of a main structural chassis supporting all internal components. Panel covers will
be removable for access to all components. Recessed front panels will be included to protect the electronic control
module and circuit breakers. Furthermore, the carrying handles will also be recessed.
2. Metal work on all racks and packs shall be properly treated with primer, then finished with spruce wrinkle green
#GFG-600-w2 scratch resistant powder coat.
3. Dimmer input and output connections shall be provided on the rear of the racks or packs and will be available in the
following configurations.
a. Power input will consist of standard cam-lock connectors rated at 600 vac at 400amps per connector.
b. Output panels on the 48 x 2.4kw rolling rack and the 24 x 2.4kw pack can be ordered with either 6 circuit Socapex
connectors, U-ground plugs, Twistlock plugs, or Bates connectors. The 24-x 2.4kw pack can also be ordered with
output terminal strips.
c. Output panels on 12kw racks or packs will have 100 amp, 125 VAC Bates connectors.
Output panels on 20/24kw racks or packs will have 100 amp, 240 VAC Bates connectors.
e. All primary circuit breakers are fully magnetic.
C: DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHTS
1. Dimmer racks will either be 43”H x 26”W x 30”D or 23”H x 26”W x 30”D and weigh 200 through 400 pounds
depending on the configuration.
2. Dimmer packs will be 8” H x 24” W x 22” D and weigh 55 through 80 pounds depending on the configuration.
D. COOLING
1. Dimmer racks, 43” high will include (4) each low noise fans to keep the rack cool.
2. Dimmer racks, 23” high will include (2) each low noise fans to keep the rack cool.
3. Dimmer packs will include (1) each low noise fan to keep the pack cool.
4. The fans will maintain the temperature of all components at proper operating levels up to a full load
provided that the location the dimmer racks or packs are in doesn’t exceed 105 degrees fahrenheit.
5. The over-stemp pilot light, located on the front of the rack or pack, will come on if the temp exceeds 140 degrees
fahrenheit. If the temp exceeds 180 degrees fahrenheit, the system will shut down automatically.
The system will reset sitself when over-temp condition subsides.
E: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
1. Supply voltage of the racks or packs shall be:
a. 2.4kw x 96 dimmer rack shall be 3-PHASE, (5 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
b. 2.4kw x 48 dimmer rack shall be 3-PHASE, (5 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
c. 2.4kw x 24 dimmer pack shall be 3-PHASE, (5 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
d. 12kw x 24 dimmer rack shall be 3-PHASE, (5 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
e. 12kw x 6 dimmer pack shall be 3-PHASE, (5 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
f. 20kw x 12 dimmer rack shall be 3-PHASE, (4 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, DELTA, 50/60 HZ. (NO NEUTRAL REQUIRED).
g. 20kw x 6 dimmer rack shall be 3-PHASE, (4 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, DELTA, 50/60 HZ. (NO NEUTRAL REQUIRED).
h. 20kw x 3 dimmer pack shall be 3-PHASE, (4 WIRE) 120/208 VAC, DELTA, 50/60 HZ. (NO NEUTRAL REQUIRED)
i. 20/24kw x 1 stand alone dimmer shall be 1-PHASE, (3 WIRE) 240VAC, 50/60 HZ. (NO NEUTRAL REQUIRED).
2.Control system for all racks or packs shall be digital multiplex DMX 512 protocol
a. Input and output (5 pin) XLR connectors supplied for daisy chaining control
signal to additional racks or packs (input and output will be optically isolated).
b. A termination dip switch shall be provided on all racks and packs making sure the
last rack or pack on the daisy chain will be terminated (dip switch #2).
c. Rear illuminated dimmer control switches shall be provided on all racks or packs
so that the dimmer can be turned on full by pushing in the switch. The same switch will illuminate
if the switch is
pushed in or it receives a DMX signal from the control console. The main DMX indicator light will also
be illuminated if the rack or pack is getting a DMX signal from the control console.
d. A rear illuminated panic switch shall be provided sending all the dimmers to full
intensity when activated. The rear illuminated dimmer control switches will also be illuminated
in the panic condition.
e. Rack and pack control modules shall have a reset switch to reset the processor if a power problem occurs.
(Located in small hole, directly to the left of 1st dip switch).
f. Rack or pack control modules will include three thumbwheel switches for selecting the start number of the dimmer.

The Thumbwheel switches are large in size, easy to read and also lock down the correct number with a push
button switching system.
F. DIMMER ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE
1. One primary fully magnetic circuit breaker, for the protection of each dimmer, will be included on the front of the
dimmer rack or pack. The circuit breaker shall be rated for either tungsten or quarts loads and have an inrush rating
of no less than 20 times of the normal current. Furthermore, the circuit breaker shall be rated for 100% switching
duty application and will be UL and CSA recognized or listed.
2. One choke for each dimmer will be included for all racks or packs operating on 3 PHASE, (5 WIRE)
120/208VAC, 50/60 HZ.
3. Two chokes for each dimmer will be included for all racks or packs operating on 3 PHASE, (4 WIRE)
DELTA 120/208 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
4. Two chokes for all stand alone dimmers will be included. The dimmer will operate on SINGLE PHASE,
(3WIRE)120/240 VAC, 50/60 HZ.
5. The dimmer control SSR DEVICE shall consist of two silicon controlled rectifiers that are optically isolated and
encapsulated in high impact plastic cases. There shall be a minimum of 2500 volts RMS insulation between the CA line
and the control lines of the SSR. (note) all 2.4kw dimmers will employ dual SSR DEVICES all others will employ single
SSR DEVICES.
6. All dimmers shall work on pultz width modulation and will operate with a factory programmed square law curve.
7. The dimmer control circuitry will still regulate the output voltage of the dimmer even if the voltage goes down
as much as 10% from the input of the main power feeders.
8. The dimmer power efficiency will be a minimum of 95% at full load.
